Intel informed its channel partners that it plans to stop manufacturing four desktop-use Pentium D processors (model numbers 830, 840, 930 and 940) by the end of 2006. The latest date to accept orders for these four Pentium D CPUs is set on December 15, 2006. Taking out the four Pentium D CPUs from the market, Intel will facilitate the migration to Core 2 Duo processors.

In addition to making the PC experience more entertaining and productive, these technologies pave the way for such emerging capabilities as High Definition (HD) video, 7.1 surround sound and robust file protection for office and home users.


Prestigio extended its line of Nobile notebooks by presenting two new models with Intel Pentium M (Dothan) support - Nobile 156 and Nobile 157. Prestigio Nobile 156 is a mainstream Centrino model for mobile professionals, while Nobile 157, a high-end model within Centrino line, targeted individual mobile professionals which tend to use their notebook not just at work but also at home.


Seagate at WinHEC demonstrated in head-to-head tests using Intel's IOMeter benchmark that its Barracuda 7,200-rpm Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive with Native Command Queuing (NCQ) technology equals or exceeds the performance of the latest 10,000-rpm SATA hard drives on the market. Seagate also announced it is shipping its Barracuda 7200.7 SATA hard drives with NCQ technology to direct OEM customers next month.
